William Lawrence Edgerton Wilde, Age 19

William was the only son of Mr & Mrs J Wilde who was, when William enlisted the landlords of the Unicorn Inn at Little Dawley although William had been born at Oakengates where the family had lived before moving to Little Dawley.

He had like many others enlisted into his local regiment, the KSLI (26095) but was serving with the Leinster’s when he was killed in action on the 5th August 1917 during the third battle of Ypres. William’s name is recorded on the Menin gate, panel 44.
